High Definition One Touch Video Recording
If you thought the first incarnations of the Flip Ultra and Flip Mino were cool gadgets, you are definitely going to like the newest versions of the two sleek, chic video cams. The original Flip digital video camcorders were released way back in May 2007, since then the company that makes it – Pure Digital – have sold over 2 million Flip camcorders!
No surprise really – the Flip MinoHD and UltraHD don’t look much different from the coolest slimmest mobile phone or latest digital camera, they are also extremely easy to use and smart-packed with solutions for the clearest quality.
So how do you improve something that is already brilliant? Easy! Just add the magic ingredient of high definition, enabling you to record in a much sharper 720p HD.
This means the colours are a lot brighter and the image a lot wider than it used to be. There’s an HDMI output addition on the side of the new camera (although you'll need to purchase an HDMI cable seperately), so there’s no more need to download and encode the videos to your computer – you can now plug the camcorder directly into the back of your high-definition TV and share the freshest footage with all your friends and family. What's improved in the HD versions of the Mino and Ultra?
But there’s more than that to the new cams. The new HD cameras have extra hours of recording time and battery life added, they now come with bigger LCD screen (and Ultra’s screen is even bigger than that of it’s slimmer sister Mino), Ultra also comes with stereo audio from two microphones, one on either side of the lens and both boast much clearer images from an upgraded video processing engine.
Also, lens now has an increased field of view, enabling you to get a lot wider image to your cam. While Mino takes rechargeable Lithium batteries, Ultra HD too can now be charged. It still operates with AA batteries, but you are now able to recharge them too when you plug the camera into a computer or a wall-charger. Of course, you need to make sure you will buy the right kind of recharegable batteries.

Does all that mean, the sleek cameras are not so sleek any longer? With more features, have they perhaps become bulkier, more complicated, harder to operate? Not really.
They look almost identical to their older versions, although they have perhaps put up a little weight. The price has also gone up a notch, but the quality of the footage is worth the difference – in fact it’s almost exceptional for the price.
