Competition closes midnight Sunday the 14th of October
The Best Bargain
The winning entries will be the people who post the deals with the highest percentage difference between the lowest price and the next cheapest price. So you're looking for dvds that are much cheaper than the next cheapest merchant in the price comparison table (rather than how much is saved off the RRP). You can enter more than once if you've found a better deal. Bonus points for hunting down a bargain yourself rather than copying from another forum.
New Visitors Need to Register to Enter
First of all you'll need to sign up to the forum if you're not already a member. Sign up here then check your mail (or spam folder) and click on the email link to validate your email address. Then you'll be able to sign in and post messages in the discussions.
Send me a PM if you've any questions about how to enter.
Winners & Closing Date
The competition will run until Sunday the 14th of October at midnight. Winners will be announced in the forum on Monday the 15th of October.
Thanks for the Links

How to post links in the forum
Here's a quick guide to posting links for anyone stuck.
First of all copy the web address from your browser of the page you want to link to.
Follow the steps in figure 1 by typing the title --> highlighting it --> clicking icon
Then paste the web address into the pop up window. Click 'OK' and that's it!

Well to get the ball rolling this one is a real bargain:
James Bond: The Ultimate Editions Box Set (Collector's Set) (40 Discs)
Down from £270 to £145.
But I am sure I can find a better deal
Thanks for kicking things off Jenny.
I've changed your link (that went directly to the Play.com site) to go to the
DVD Collections price comparison page so it's easier to compare savings with other merchants and weigh up its bargainability
Although it's a great deal compared to the RRP of £270 it's only about £5 cheaper than DVD.co.uk's next cheapest price. The bargains I'll be looking for will be ones that are much cheaper compared to the next best price rather than the RRP which can often be over inflated to begin with. Hope that helps
Clint Eastwood The Legend Volume 2 £17.99 at HMV compared to £36.97 at Foxy.
Good price on the Doctor in the House movie collection.Apparently some if not the most successful British comedys of all time.7 movies spanning from '54 to '70 and precursor to the 70's successful tv series(see Wiki if interested).
£24.97 and £26.21 at amazon UK/Jersey respectively - next best £46.25 at Foxy.
Doctor in the House movie collection - http://www.dvdcollections.co.uk/search/fetchPrices.php?id=mfno1012531
Star Trek Enterprise - Complete Collection in collectors box set.
Available for £189.85 at DVD.co.uk for this hard to find limited collectors set containing all 4 seasons - next best £237.79 at 101 CD.... Star Trek Enterprise-The Complete Collection
The Ingmar Bergman collection - £124.96 via uwish
Next best is £196.75 at TaxfreeDVD
link - http://www.dvdcollections.co.uk/search/fetchPrices.php?id=mfno1048756
Too late for me now but I think I will take up this mission tomorrow.
I think I have got the hang of this now...
Rita Hayworth - Screen Goddess Boxset
Wow! This is a good one
You've got the hang of it now Jenny, that's going to be hard to beat
As 101CD and Blah DVD are the same company they count as the same merchant so the best price is £9.19 and the next cheapest price is £41.75 at Foxy which I think makes 101CD 78% cheaper than Foxy. Which must put you in the lead.
If everyone could also add the best price and next cheapest price to their posts then I can scan through the deals easier when I'm trying to get my head round who's actually in the lead...
Hope you're not all as confused as me
Nice finds too Robtallica, holding down 2nd place, surely not another podium finish
Actually lostfrog (great username) might be in 2nd place for the Clint Eastwood set, really good deal. I'll work out the percentages later when my brain comes back.
Audrey Hepburn Collection Box Set
It really pays to shop around this one has increased by more than four times in value!!!!
Not part of the competition, but look how much this one changes in value!!!!
Prime Suspect 1 to 7 Box Set
http://www.dvdcollections.co.uk/search/fetchPrices.php?id=mfno1047649
The price ranges everywhere from 30 pounds to 100 pounds!!!
That was fun and I have found a couple of really good deals that I am going to order including:
Bergerac
http://www.dvdcollections.co.uk/search/fetchPrices.php?id=mfno1074868
Now I need to sleep
On my quest to find the biggest saving on a dvd i stumbled accross these three gems. Classics i think anyone would like to have in the dvd collection... OK that might be a lie but there all 94% off the rrp and i cant find a dvd with a better % saving.
Claire Sweeny - Perfect Fit With Weightwatchers
Blue - A Year In The lIfe Of Blue
Many Thanks Chris (good luck anyone who can get lower than 94%
ps. these three make loverly coasters and also you can you the cases for other good dvds that the cases are damager or scrathched
Jack Johnson - A Weekend At The Creek
PS i stumbled accross this. its actually a -11% saving.
If thats not worth something i give up
lmao! Just found a better one Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Complete Season 2 £14.99 at CD WOW! compared to £42.44 at BBC Shop. 64.68% saving to be exact.
They say all good things come in threes but not so sure after that selection weller
reckon I can better you for quality viewing with a dvd I stumbled upon:
Combine Harvesters, Lorries And Tractors
Imagine watching that after a romantic meal for two, candles flickering in the background...
As for the -11% deal we might have to start a whole new competition to find the worst possible deal on the site, afraid -11% probably isn't the worst either.
Back to the comp... take a leaf out the book of lostfrog, ignore the RRP saving and track down the ones with the biggest price difference between lowest and next lowest. The Buffy one's a really good deal.
Good finds Jenny, the price ranges can be pretty unreal.
Ok grant ill start finding some real bargins now.
However in the meantime check out this item
- 350% saving LOL
what a saving, buying 3 before the price comes down
http://www.dvdcollections.co.uk/search/fetchPrices.php?id=mfno1000541
Gladiators of War 2, RRP £119.99.
Best price £24.96, next best price £81.99 saving around 70% off the next price (i think!!)
Wow, great find jadring, puts you right in the running for a prize
I make it a 70% saving off the next price too. Anyone else struggling to work out the percentage here's what I do, probably easier ways though:
Divide the next best price by 100 - so for the above set that gives me 82p. Then divide the best price (£24.96) by that amount (82p) which comes out at just over 30. Subtract 30 from 100 and you get 70. So 70% difference. I think
I'll post the deal in the forum too in case anyone misses it.
A topical one due to Englands triumph over Australia in the Rugby World Cup 1/4 final(and hopefully a further 2 triumphs in the semi and Final BTW - Anyway...
The History of Rugby available for £1.96 from uwish inc free postage.
- next best is £10.47 at The Hut and ASDA.
I make that 81% off next best price.
Sorry for reminding you about the England rugger team's triumph Grant (Oh! and once more again)
Link
The History of Rugby
http://www.dvdcollections.co.uk/search/fetchPrices.php?id=mfno1031550
The Graham Norton Effect £1.96 next £13.43 saving of about 85.5%.
Teddy Sheringham hosted Virtual Soccer Academy
£1.96 at uwish
next best £13.15
Puts me on 85% by my calculations
Ha, looks like we could be having a gunfight at the OK Corral to determine the winner here...
Can't argue with the prices, way cheaper at uWish (definitely a good place to check for this comp) than anywhere else.
Won't be rushing to buy them though! Begs the age old question that if a tree falls in the woods and there's no one there to hear it - is a bargain still a bargain if it exists but no one wants to buy it?
Rugby taunts are water off a duck's back to me, let the goading start when the rounded ball euro qualifiers are back underway
Here's the current standings, only half a percent in it!
Currently in 1st place:
jadring - with this dvd - lowest price is 85.5% cheaper than the next best.
Currently in 2nd place:
robtallica - with this dvd - lowest price is 85% cheaper than the next best.
Currently in 3rd place:
jenny - with this box set - lowest price is 78% cheaper than the next best.
If you don't think you can beat those numbers then I'm going to offer a bonus prize of another boxset, but don't worry, it won't have anything to do with percentages! Details coming up in the next post.
Okay, here's the new bonus prize details...
First off I have to say that although this box set is brand new and sealed it sounds like some of the plastic bits that hold the dvds in place inside the cases have come loose or snapped off in transit so a couple of discs are unnatached and I couldn't make this a top prize but if you don't mind that then I'm sure all the dvds will still be fine and it has some great films. Click on the image for film descriptions at Virgin...
How to Win the Ultimate War Collection Bonus Prize:
I'll be giving this prize out to the member who I think has posted the most popular bargain. The one that if I had to promote just one bargain on the home page that I thought people would be keen to buy then this would be it.
You can also help me out by clicking the 'thanks' link next to any bargains you think really stand out.
So you should have a pretty decent chance as only a few days left and there's not a percentage sign or mathematical equation sight
A little deal for your delectation , wasn't sure wether to post this here or on the main forum page.Anyway heregoes...
Thunderbirds complete series - £49.97/£51.21 at amazon UK/Jersey respectively.
Next best is £90.19 at 101 CD.
Set boasts all 32 episodes ever produced - that's '27 hours' of this classic series(must be the greatest theme tune ever - no argument) . Episodes are spread over 8 discs with the 9th being completely made up of extras.I think there is a newer set available but this set is a further £22+ cheaper than that - and more attractive in my humble opinion.
Produced FYI a couple of miles from me - up the road in the Slough Trading Estate area - where some 'The Office' external building shots were filmed too JFYI.
Let me know if you want me to post this with my extended special features info on the main forum page Grant - just give me a quick PM if required - I can just copy and paste.
Thunderbirds Complete Series

I know it's not much of a saving against the second, but at an RRP of £19.99 I think this is good value:-
http://www.dvdcollections.co.uk/search/fetchPrices.php?id=mfno1015938
At £1.96 it's a saving of 95%.
definite bargain robtallica and thanks for posting it in the main forum too, had no idea it was filmed in Slough.
Welcome to the forum shewell, might not be winning the percentage wars but still a good price you found.
updated the current standings, turns out dvdi have a mandatory 99p insurance charge which should be added on to the next price shown in robtallica's bargain which actually makes things a dead heat... jadring takes the slight upperhand for getting in first though!
Currently in joint 1st place:
jadring - with this dvd - lowest price is 85.5% cheaper than the next best.
Currently in joint 1st place:
robtallica - with this dvd - lowest price is 85.5% cheaper than the next best.
Currently in 3rd place:
jenny - with this box set - lowest price is 78% cheaper than the next best.
Remember if you can't beat these you can still enter any bargain you find for a chance to win the Ultimate War Collection a few posts above this.

LUCYDU52'S LINK...
From Lucydu52's link-less good value suggestion a couple above,no probs...
Nightmare on Elm Street - 7 Disc Collector's Edition
BTW Lucydu52(and other posters) being a regular poster I often find that if I add a link to an already written post,it adds the link but also doubles up all the text that I have written as part of the link
This obviously might not apply to a lot of users.
Even if I put the link in first I have to trim off 2-3 double-ups of my link title every post.i.e.'Star Trek Animated Series' after posting comes out...
'Star Trek Animated Series' 'Star Trek Animated Series' 'Star Trek Animated Series'
-With the middle one appearing to be the link.
I personally trim off the 1st and last as the middle one is highlighted in blue - that's your link.
This trick works okay for me - it just takes a little trial and error, part of the trick is knowing which parts of the text to trim off so that your link doesn't disappear
It might be because I'm on xp service pack 1 or something apparently incidental. Some members might experience no problems whatsoever of course.
BTW - I find if you ARE having problems posting links - I find it's easiest to add your link(and pic if so be it) first .Then check your link(s) by posting your unfinished comment and then just editing your post to add your text afterward - I push the links down the page to allow for the text in the top part - this way you also eliminate the risk of wrecking half an hours worth of typing
Another method is to copy and paste your link with the right-click manual method and just placing it onto the page - comes out roughly like this....http://www.dvdcollections.co.uk/search/fetchPrices.php?id=.............. - this works fine aswell, just doesn't look as smooth
Any other members feel free to PM me with your probs with posting if you want an honest personal opinion . I like you have the user end experience and want the best for this site and it's users - and I may have a couple of tricks up my sleeve hopefully

I've just ordered one as my firsty xmas present of the year for my Mum.
She's actually a sweet , kind , polite person - but she does like to watch a bit of 'Seagal justice' dealt out to the usual suspects.
Especially when he snaps arms, legs, fingers or toes with pool cues, baseball bats and the like...meatcleaver on a butcher anyone ? There's always a satisfying CRACK!
Not for the purists , but all it takes is bit of arthouse cinema afterwards to cleanse ones-self

Good to see some new entries coming in gra1952, lucydu52 and robtallica52
Sorry about the problems you had with the links lucydu52 and robtallica.
I haven't been aware of the problem before as it's always work fine for me but just realised it's because I'm using the Firefox browser.
I just tried posting and editing a link in Internet Explorer 7 and got the same problems you talked about. Not good and can imagine pretty frustrating to work around.
I'll be looking into a solution to why it's happening so in the meantime it might be easier to just paste the links in like Robtallica said or use Firefox instead of IE.
Sorry about the problem folks, hopefully can find a fix soon.

Thought I was just being a bit stupid when it came to the posting of the links. Makes me feel a bit better that it is more of a techy thing. How do you do the straightforward links like above please ?
Just a pity I'm not techy enough to be able to fix it yet
To post a link like the one above, just copy and paste as normal, example below:
highlight the web address (link) from the top of the page you want to link to - then hold down the 'Control' key and press 'c' - this will copy the link.
Then when you're writing your comment just hold down the 'Control' key and press 'v' - this will paste the link into your comments.
Let me know if you have any problems.

78.5 % difference, nice find
Looks like you can buy the Thunderbirds in 2 parts for cheaper. I suppose it depends on what you like and the extras you get. I would personally prefer a complete set but if money is an issue I think you can get all the episodes for just under £30.00 in two seperate packs.
http://www.dvdcollections.co.uk/search/search.php?title=thunderbirds&page=2
Didn't want to pip anyone to the post just got on a roll now that the children are fast asleep and I can think !!!

Well I've had fun and found myself some good bargains. Shame about the ironing I should have been doing. It can wait another day !!!
Goodnight.

Have you got the hang of posting yet Lucydu52 ?
Some good suggestions though. The x-men 1.5 is a good find , if I was an x-men fan I would definately get it - not exactly a risk either .
What can you get for £3.59 nowadays ? a sarnie from a petrol station probably's your best bet without much change left over...
Just like the England rugby team - well played in injury time Lucydu52.
Great to see the forum filling up smoothly too BTW - for Grant and all the members .It'll be on fire soon at this rate
It should get easier to spot those good/freak often short-term prices which you can't miss out on , the more scouts (or field agents as I like to think of them) the more chances to spot good deals for everyone.
Think I've got the hang of it now. It's a shame the feature doesn't work for windows xp though as it does look so much better and neater without all the web address. I'm sure there is another way around it but to be honest I'm not particulary good with the technical stuff. Thanks for your help earlier and putting the link on for me.

Thanks for some great entries again, just working out the winners list so so if you check back here by 1pm all will be revealed.
Remember to check back later this afternoon for the new weekly competition.

Thank you Robtallica, what a Gent.
You were in first pal , good ol' Uwish - besides , I think a Graham Norton DVD should of beaten an entry which contained 'The Teddy Sheringham Virtual Soccer Academy.
Well happy with my 2nd place and my cool DVD
Am I the 1st member to complete the 'Grand Slam' of 1st,2nd and 3rd place in consecutive competitions - isn't there some sort of unique Dvd Collections themed prize , honour or trophy for this achievement
