Been looking to add this to my collection for some time - just did too!
Fantastic late 60's sci-fi with a bit of class and charm about it.
There was a white coloured edition doing the rounds for upwards of £40-£50 (£50.97 at the moment) I never fancied that set, good job too because...
There is a new 6-disc 40th anniversary special edition collection now available at a much better price and is now fully restored with a load of new content - full details and side-by-side comparison at bottom of post(and on the 2nd post).
Priced at £34.99 at the currently rather user-unfriendly Vigin Megastore's website.
Next best price is £37.89.
Virgin Megastore are going through a re-branding into 'Zavvi' in the Uk and Ireland - you may have noticed the sites looks very different. It's slow and difficult to use but I got mine ordered eventually... just takes a bit of trial and error!

The Prisoner 40th anniversary special edition
Special features include - take another deep breath...
Don’t Knock Yourself Out: This exclusive, feature-length documentary is the definitive look at the production of The Prisoner, told by those involved in its creation. It includes a combination of archive and newly-filmed interviews with nearly 40 people, including Annette Andre, Bernard Williams, David Tomblin, Derren Nesbitt, Peter Wyngarde, Anton Rodgers, Michael Grade, George Baker and Peter Bowles.
Audio Commentaries: on Arrival, The Chimes of Big Ben, The Schizoid Man, The General, Dance of the Dead, A Change of Mind and Fall Out.
Original Edits of Arrival and The Chimes of Big Ben: Long thought only to exist in a low-quality format, the original edit of Arrival is presented here as a brand new digital restoration from the original 35mm film elements, along with a music-only soundtrack featuring Wilfred Josephs’ complete and abandoned score. This version is exclusive to this set. Also included is the previously-available original edit of The Chimes of Big Ben - viewers will note a drop in the technical quality of this episode.
Arrival Original Edit Restoration: A featurette using split-screen to demonstrate the scale of restoration required for this episode.
Trailers: Digitally restored trailers for all seventeen episodes and two generic trailers.
Production Guide: An exclusive book on the making of the series by Andrew Pixley.
Behind-the-Scenes Footage: This unique footage, taken on location at Portmerion, shows a number of aspects of behind-the-scenes production, including the only known footage to exist of the original, abandoned Rover prototype. Also includes recently discovered, previously-unseen footage. From the collection of and (c) Steven Ricks.
Production Paperwork Archive: Original scripts for each episode are included on Discs 1-6 and Disc 7 contains some original production documentation, press releases and other memorabilia. The scripts make fascinating reading and include different versions of some shooting scripts, as well as revisions and some unused storylines. This unique collection is sourced from the personal archives of Tony Sloman, Steven Ricks and Simon Coward and is reproduced with their permission and assistance.
Image Archive: Individual galleries of over 1200 stills are featured throughout this set, with episodic ones appearing on Discs 1-6 and Disc 7 featuring generic/PR photos, coverage of the original Press Conference in 1967 and Jack Shampan’s designs. Also included on Disc 6, courtesy of the Steven Ricks collection is a series of Exposure Strips produced originally by the film labs when prepping rushes. As well as showing a number of clapperboards and other key items of interest they also detail the filming of some scenes that aren’t included in the final episodes.
Dolby 5.1 Audio Mix: Each of the seventeen episodes has the option to be listened to in either original Mono or Dolby 5.1 (where the original mono materials have been used to best effect).
Commercial Break Bumpers
Archive Material: Archive Material which includes textless titles with clean themes by Ron Grainer, Wilfred Josephs and Robert Farnon, as well as material from Living in Harmony, Fall Out, Rover, foreign Filing Cabinet title footage and the McGoohan photo montage from Arrival.
Be seeing you!

Great post Rob, sounds like good value for all you get thrown in. Clean restoration job by the looks of things, which isn't always the case.
Haven't bought from Virgin since the redesign, not a huge fan of the new look so no surprises it's equally cumbersome to get through the checkout too.
glad you liked my post - i'll try and make it more informative next time
The virgin MS must be under major construction at the mo - it is terrible , with proxy errors aplenty and tons of bugs.
yeh, put some effort into it next time eh, sheesh
Got my dispatch email at 5pm'ish , £29.99 was the cost - it went back up inside a couple of hours again to £34.99 , still a bargain me thinks
I agree the set looks very attractive , nice and big too... much better than the beige coloured 2004 release

Been a while since last looked at this box set but down to £31.99 at Zavvi with Amazon being next cheapest at £35.97.
The Prisoner: Complete Box Set - £31.99 delivered at Zavvi
Now £29.95 at Base (dvd.co.uk)
To my shame I've only just heard about the death of The Prisoner star Patrick McGoohan who died a couple of days ago. The Prisoner has become one of my favorite 'cult' shows since I saw it in it's entirety a year or so ago.
For anyone who's interested in finding out about it all:
The Prisoner 40th Anniversary Special Edition - £35.98 at Amazon, dispatched within 7 to 12 days.
Next best price is £53.49 at Powerplay Direct
I didnt know either
Was watching an episode on ITV 4 only yesterday
Yeah my Dad told me when I spoke to him earlier today - he was 80 apparently. Borrowing the set off my Dad is how I got into the show.
Looks like I'll be ordering one from Amazon very soon now. The restoration looks grand upscaled through my PS3 on my Sony Bravia.
It is an often confounding and sometimes frustrating series very much open to interpretation, the episodes can seem really l-o-n-g aswell - but there's just something I love about it.
Just got a 40% off everything e-mail from Networkdvd
Makes The Prisoner £29.36 on their site

Back down to it's lowest ever price, funnily enough I was watching an episode entitled "The Schizoid Man" on the train the other day - just fabulous writing. I'm not really that interested in the update that's hitting ITV very soon(trailer shown last night).
The Prisoner Complete Series (7 Discs & Book), prices start at £17.85 at Zavvi/THG
Next best is £23.97 at Amazon
Great value, curious to see the update (Ian McKellen not a bad start) even though they can never recreate the original and the cards are stacked against it. More info on the ITV minisite.
£16.93 at LoveFilm
£17.85 at Zavvi/The Hut
Cheers, lowest price I've seen yet. Also just noticed another repackage of this on the horizon:
The Prisoner - The Ultimate Set ...10/10/2010
Maybe it has the recent mini series/update included?
Interesting, including the update would be my guess too, will keep an eye on it.
I received a whole heap of different ChoicesUK Price Tracker updates in the night. They must of recently updated their website too, bears a canny resemblance to HMVs website, layout, colours and tabs n'all. Just on a white background and not on black.
The Prisoner 40th Anniversary Special Edition £13.74 at Choices UK
Next best price is £17.95 at Base
Now that is a very good price! Cheers for posting all those ChoicesUK prices, Looks like they're part of The Webb Group who I can't find any direct ties with HMV but could be missing something as the site certainly looks like a very similar template.
p.s. as I write this both our teams are bottom of their leagues
I decide to see this as a sign that all the correct stars have aligned in place and very, very soon we're going to shoot up the table to our best seasons in years
Thanks for all of the string of latest updates robtallica
it's a very good price for this series.
Regarding the football
I do hope you are right grant as usually the stars only line up about once every 1000 years (Which is about the last time the teams played well isn't it?)
Think you need to consult an astronomer rather an astrologist eldonion as we're already up to the dizzy heights of 2nd bottom after a point yesterday, the relentless climb begins
Ah well, the fixture list has been rather unkind and we all knew we'd be in trouble unless we hit the ground running, all the same 6 fixtures we lost last season besides away to Aston Villa. Chelsea, Spurs and Stoke next so don't be surprised if it's 6 games without a point in 3-4 weeks. Don't know what to make of it.
Gonna be a long hard season and I won't be enjoying Football First on Sky much during 2010/11 by the looks of it.
Glad to hear you got a precious point
