What would you really like to see on this site?

Just put down your ideas for what you think would make this site better and whoever comes up with the best idea will be walking away with the Heroes DVD.

It doesn't have to be a massive, ground breaking idea, could be something seemingly small but nonetheless really useful or just an original creative slant on something you've seen elsewhere.

    Hehe, nice try tigerwuds :)

Welcome to the forum vercity and amandasteel2000 too, just started the weekly competitions last week but if they continue to do well hopefully I can add even more like you suggest.

Remember the best suggestion will win the prize so keep them coming and keep them original, have a look around the site, try out the dvd search, visit the homepage and see if there's anything that you'd do differently or would quickly add to the site if you were the head honcho here.

No limit to the entries so may the best comment win!

Maybe a once a week or so a email with the best of the weeks deals that have been found. just incase anyone hasnt had time to come onto the site maybe an email would be cool. nothing too fancy. I get emails from ticket places and shops like hmv and id prob read that aswel. thats the best idea i have. otherwise the site itself is generally at a good standard that nothing else needs to be done fella

    Hi Grant,

Its a great site - very easy to move around. I have searched but can't find this - I would really like to see a "Coming Soon to DVD" section with the release date of the DVD - so we can put our orders in early and wait with baited breath for our favourite DVDs to arrive. All the best!

This is an idea I've had for ages but have never mentioned it to you as I've never had the opportunity. As you've gone and asked for what I would really like to see on this site,I'll be honest with you...

How's about incorporating a video game section inside this very site! - Like many others, two of my favourite hobbys/things that I buy or invest in are dvd's and videogames - they tend to dominate my online purchases.
I was thinking current gen i.e. xbox 360 , ps3 and wii games which are very much in keeping with this sites forward thinking and modern approach - many members such as myself for instance have at least two if not one of these systems by now(not forgetting that there are still alot of people who buy dvd based ps2 games BTW) -remembering that these are all dvd(ps2/360)/blu ray(ps3) format systems and stay within the dvd market for which you already cater for.
The market is crying out for a dvd collections take on video games and I for one would dearly love to see it -
I think it would be awesome to have an identical framework and setup as with your comprehensive dvd/hd/bluray listings and search options - I would only have to go to one place to get my dvds/hd's/blurays and my copy of HALO 3!!!

As for the solely dvd/hd/bluray side of this site - I think you run a pretty awesome site already that has an extremely professional execution and feel. There's not much that can be improved from my own usage needs and viewpoint - but I'll try and think of a few more just for you;)

  3.

How about film trailers for the accompanying DVDs?

Thanks weller, nice idea too, a simple weekly email with a few of the best offers is definitely something I'll consider. I'd have to stick with offers still available at the time of posting it but could still be useful. You're in the running!

Thanks for signing up to the forum AnyoneCanWhistle, and glad you like the site. Been thinking of this myself so it's good to know others would find it useful. Been compiling a list of over 40 major box set releases coming out before Christmas so should be happening in the next few weeks once the coding and designs are finished. In the running too!

Excellent post Robtallica, thanks for the kind words and a very interesting idea too.

I actually started designs for a Nintendo games site last year but just never had the time to take it any further.

I've never really thought of adding the games search to here as I guess I never linked the areas but I can see what you mean about a crossover interest between dvds and games. Really got me thinking now!

Welcome to the forum oldishmalik, nice idea too. Might be tricky incorporating a trailer directly onto the dvd search pages (the way they're currently set up anyway) but I'll start looking for ways I could maybe do it on the new coming soon page and some of the other feature pages like the Heroes one.

I wish Apple Trailers would let sites embed their trailers into their pages like you can with youtube as apple's are way better quality. But will see if there's a good solution somewhere. A few folk in with a shout for best idea, this is going to be tricky!

How about a forum solely dedicated for members to discuss dvd and other non-dvd related topics.
Personal DVD reviews,tv series chat, views, price of fish and chips;) etc could all be incorporated.Helping to keep members (and hopefully constant new members) on the site and close to all the good deals - WITH links on the forums pages directly back to the result pages.

Liking your ideas robtallica so keep them coming, I remember ichimcfly suggested a similar idea for the forums a while back, only thing stopping me was fearing that I wouldn't have the time to keep the discussions going while empty forum tumbleweed whistled past ;) But I now think it's worth a try and hopefully will take on a life it's own as members increase so watch this space.

Thanks for signing up Cassieopea, good to have you on board. A calendar would be useful, similar to AnyoneCanWhistle' s suggestion of a 'dvds coming soon page' so no doubt there's a need for it. If you get a chance to browse around a bit more you can post any more ideas up till friday to increase your chances of getting the golden ticket :)

How about downloadable wallpapers and screensavers etc.
They could consist of specific dvd artwork or promotional pics - I was thinking down the roads of - Heroes,BSG,Prison Break,24 and the simpsons season box set artwork and the like.
You would also be able to emblazon any downloadable wallpaper, screensavers etc with the 'dvd collections' logo.Pretty good (and simple) promotional tool methinks - imagine just how cheap and effective a 'dvd collections' branded screensaver would be.BTW if you WERE to implement this - from my own selfish viewpoint I would love an x-files/dvdcollections wallpaper and screensaver.A middle season Scully between 2-7 would do me fine and EVEN possibly the 'Lone Gunmen'-now theres a wallpaper/screensaver!!!

Another good suggestion robtallica, you're on a roll :) Never got my Flash skills to progress much beyond the basics so the screensavers might not be a go-er (at least from me) but designed my fair share of wallpapers so could see that working well.

A forum which where everyone can leave a review and a out of ten score. Use this for a chart of the users favourite DVD's. Keep it directly related to DVD's rather than all other subjects, people can go other websites if they want to discuss other stuff.

Welcome to the forum Gary, like the suggestion. Something I could combine with an idea I've recently been thinking about and I'd never thought of a users chart.

I think that music DVD's would be good as well as a few more comps. Maybe a top 10 list of recent DVD's and then an all time favourites list.

We could also have a section on the site where only the really limited dvds are included, so that if someone has a favourite film, then they can easily search for the 'fancy' version of the film, such as 3 or 4 disc extended versions or special packaging!

each time people use a link from this site to purchase a dvd, they can receive something like dvdpoints. When the ballance adds up to quite a bit, the points can be redeemed for a discounts or even a free dvd or 2! this not only encourages people to buy more through this site, but is also an effectie way to promote the site!

We could also have like a special theme each week or month- so that the website can look very cool- for example in halloween time we can make the site look ghoul, whilst in christams time we can use mickey's magical chritsmas theme. And in plain old march... well anything from star trek to james bond to doctor who!!! very artistic yet an effective way of bringing attention!!!

As this is and should be a community - how about a forum page dedicated for members to give away or exchange personalised coupon codes - like the ones some of us often get via email from various companys.
Say I've got a £10(infact any size) voucher for amazon etc,but I'm not gonna buy anything before the voucher expires-I would have somewhere to give up the voucher code.It would go to someone else who has a genuinne use for it - first come first served!I know this is acheivable already with the current forum setup but a dedicated forum page for personal coupons would help to actually get people to give them away or exchanging them as opposed to letting them just expire or go to waste -
It would have to be for dvd collections members only as anyone could come in to the site and take the codes - thus more people should want to sign up.
How about calling it simply - 'Voucher Exchange'!

RE:Further on from the theme ideas mentioned before - how about having the user being able to choose their own on-line theme from various choices. You could have star wars, star trek,BSG,24,x files, transformers - a futurama theme would be especially cool -the possibilities are endless - OR even variations on the dvd colections theme to suit the user. It's a great way of letting users personalise their own on-line experience whilst on the site.

    Hi Grant

I have noticed that you don't have a dvd price watch facility, for example you see a dvd that you want to purchase, it's currently selling at £10, but you want to wait until it comes down to your own lower target price. You then send out a email advising of the new lower price. I know at least of one site that has this facility.

  5.

I would love to see a section where members can vote for their greatest dvd's of all time in different categories - sci-fi, thriller, comedy series etc. It would be really good to see a list that develops over time and nudges us in the direction of great stuff we are not aware of.
We could have monthly or weekly votings until we have a complete list of different genres.

Just found your site and think it is excellent, would like to see if possible a category for actors - not sure how feasable this would be where the bargins posted filtered into this showing best buys for their most recent DVDs. Otherwise site is great pity I did not find it sooner, ah well here now and gonna stay

Great to see so many new members and such a variety of ideas, I'd never see daylight again till 2009 if I tried to make all of them happen but some ideas are already in progress and quite a few now added to the list...

to catch up with everyone I've missed...

carzkilfoil - welcome to the forum. there is a music category on the dvd search but not yet on the forum. Top 10 and all time favourites lists sound good.

ashiqp - phew, 7 in a row, good effort...
    1. animated characters could work if subtle enough.
    2. Like the limited versions idea, would be useful.
    3. Special sections like Disney etc is coming soon!
    4. Members uploading dvd images would be nice, could tie in with member reviews. 5. Caption - you're right!
    6. dvdpoints idea is good but I'm afraid it would be a full time job to run in itself, have looked into it and there would be a ton of admin work to maintain. You'll have to make do with a free useful site and prizes to make up for no dvdpoints :)
    7. Seasonal themes - good idea, will be happening at Christmas.

robtallica - good to see more ideas coming...
    1. Like the voucher idea - just been looking into ways of creating a members only category but as yet I don't think it's possible with this kind of forum software. IT seems either the whole forum can be seen by only members or the whole forum seen by everyone including none members. Will keep looking into it.
    2. Nice expansion of the themes idea too, sure it would look great with those options, it's on the list!

Chiana - thanks for signing up and thanks, I will :)

gra1952 - Welcome to the forum - Good suggestion and thankfully got some good news there, been meaning to add the price watch function for a while but wanted to improve search first but now that's done I'm making progress on the price watch.

kirsteenatom - Hi Kirsteen and glad to have you on board. Nice take on the favourite dvd list, breaking it up into categories and seeing how it changes over time - will keep that in mind.

    Clemenza30
Glad you're liking the site and are here to stay. Woul dbe a nice feature to filter offers by actor - slightly limited by the forum software to be able to do that but when I create new feature pages some actor themed ones would be good too.

Thanks for all the thoughtful comments so far folks, giving me lots of good ideas to run with but don't even want to think about picking a winner yet!

I think you've already created an extremely useful, informative and well-designed site.

My suggestion has sort of been suggested but I'll mention it anyway. I think one way this site will improve is to expand the information on offer about each DVD to include things like product reviews. This sort of information could for the most part come from us users if we start putting more into the site than simply finding the cheapest price. It seems to me like the forum would allow this now, but integrating the reviews into the DVD search would mean a DVD search could do more than just indicate the cheapest current price.

Reviews could cover how enjoyable and entertaining a DVD set was but also how worthwhile were the bonus features, are there any quality issues with the picture or audio etc. I tend to check a product's page on Amazon all the time, even if I'm not going to buy it from them, to see what the customer reviews have said about things like the quality. I've seen reviews point out huge faults in episode ordering, quality glitches, recommendations to try the Region 1 version instead for better features etc. If this sort of info could be added by yourself and the users here it would enhance the usefulness of searches and I'm sure as the userbase develops the more people there will be to be building this complete picture of what's on the DVD, how it looks and where's best to buy it from.

On that last point, perhaps there could also be a way for users to provide their opinions and experiences with the retail sites, perhaps giving them ratings for factors such as delivery, packaging. A site might well be the cheapest but what if lots of people have found that delivery is very slow, or that packages regularly arrive damaged - that information might help others to decide just who is best to buy from.

  6.

I have been puzzling over this suggestion - "Just keep on what your are already doing but more of it please!" - what does it mean? Maybe Chiana could elaborate? (puzzled face)

Have added this as a favourite and will be checking back on a regular basis. I keep checking DVDs that I have already bought and they are ALL listed cheaper here including postage!!!!! Brass at £16.89 - I paid 36 pound!! (crying face)

Another suggestion - you need some smiley faces, crying faces, sad faces etc that people can add to their messages.... :o)
