Bluray Collections - New Site & Forum Discussion Area
Introduction
First off all a big thanks to Chris (aka weller96c) for suggesting back in November that it would be good to have a Blu-ray version of DVD Collections. He also helped with coming up with a list of popular blu-rays and prices which was great (even though I completed it too late to use most of the list!).
Fast forward 7 or so months and I finally got everything set up and live. The main search will search only blu-rays (so you don't need to type in 'blu-ray' into your search box ) a search for Lost will only bring back blu-ray Lost boxsets.
I'll put some of the more high profile Blu-ray box set releases on the homepage so you should have plenty of advance notice for a big release.
US Blu-ray Search & Import Guide
There's also a US Blu-ray search so you can compare prices of Blu-rays across the pond with prices listed in pounds. I've also written up an import guide and useful sites to check which blu-ray releases are region free and which are region A locked.
Blu-ray Latest Releases
You can also check the weeks new Blu-ray releases (updates every monday).
Blu-ray Forum
I'll make this discussion sticky so that we can use it for posting and discussing Blu-ray offers (the sequel to Rob's excellent Blu-ray thread) so please feel free to contribute with any feedback, deals or questions.
So I hope you like the site and find it useful enough to add to your bookmarks and pass on to friends and leaders of countries etc
Visit our new site: Bluray Collections

P.S. Just fixed a bug in the search box at top right of Bluray Collections, should be working fine now in case anyone got weird results back.
I was gonna message you about that...the searches came back as random. Had to use DVDC's top right search box to find it. I'll have another go.
EDIT: Now works fine
An old favourite of yours and and an old still not seen yet of mine...

In your explanation of Duty charges for US imports, I think you've missed the fact that the Post Office sticks an £8 charge on as well as your import charges. I've been hit with this numerous times over the past year. It makes ordering a hit and miss affair.
Another point, is that some US websites include the postage costs in their customs declaration, so you end up paying that as well. Discussions are not always an easy one trying to claim the postage costs back.
Hope this makes sense. If not let me know and I'll try to be clearer.
Cheers Weller!
Thanks for the info Ackrotiri, that was one charge that passed me by, sounds like they doubled the fee from £4 a couple of years ago, pretty extortionate.
I've amended the info on the site and added a link to the Royal Mail customs info.
It's the fact that you chose to order it to see it before its available in the UK, you pay the price and know that you're under the £18 but the US site includes the postage in the declaration & you're stitched up for 17.5% + £8 handling charge.
You don't even know what exchange rate their using - plus a lot of items ordered from the US are posted from Belgium, so how that works I would like to know
It's also non-negotiable because the PO state that you have to take it up with Customs & Excise - and you don't want them to get your name!! I tried it once last year & would not recommend it - going to the dentist for a root canal is easier & less painful
Yeh, can see why many people get put off when you add up all the potential extra charges.
Myself and some other members of the forum have used YesAsia in the past and been impressed with their service. This Grindhouse Box Set was popular at the time.
They pay all customs & VAT charges so you won't be charged any more than what you pay on the site. Sometimes their prices can be more expensive but a there's a few decent offers to be had when you offset any potential extra charges. They have a large US Region 1 & US Blu-ray section and some interesting special edition releases.

Thanks for that Grant.
I basically object to the Post Office stitching me up. I see that I have already paid my postage costs & do not expect to have to pay again for the Post Office to deliver it - not even that because you have to go and collect it
I have found DVDpacific.com - based in Florida. They put all orders through at $25.96 and their postage costs are way less than other oversea sites. A lot of their deliveries are from Belgium - Any thoughts on that one??
Again like yours, they may be slightly more expensive but its all about swings and roundabouts.
Seen the DVDPacific site before but never used them myself, sounds good though.
Just had my first proper usage of the US Blu-ray search, it's very handy indeed.
There's no current Blu-ray release of the Manga classic 'Akira' in the UK - typed in Akira into the US search and 5 results came up for me.
Not cheap, but if I want to purchase a copy right now - I could from an Amazon marketplace seller. A visual feast that should look great in hidef.
My daughter uses UK2USA for Manga.
I would not recommend using an American Amazon marketplace seller - you will find that they put inflated postage costs onto the order and they also tend to add the postage costs into the customs declaration.
